samoa joe interview

Samoa Joe was interviewe
d by AllWrestling.com on what I believe to be one of the longest interviews Joe has had in quite a while. Below is a quick recap of the interview.

First thing on the agenda that is brought up is that Samoa Joe's contract ends some time in 2012

he admits that he hasn't been used to the fullest of his potential. He does recognize that TNA is in a phase where they are building new talent.
Quote
its always extremely rough not to be in the title picture. i have had the ability to work for tremendous young talent. He puts over crimson as one person to watch. having a part in developing young talent is important.

The interview shift gears to Bruce Prichard now being the head of creative and the focus on original talent in the main event picture. Joe says he loves that and those guys really haven't been given a main event spot. Joe says he was put in the main event picture pretty early and they have been around just as long if not longer in storms case.

On whether he would jump ship to the WWE:
I think people believe that I'm on the cusp of being an extremely disgruntled employee. I've heard such wild rumors like that I've been sighted in Connecticut. I've had secret meetings, its all but done. A trade that sounds so ridiculously silly. That i despise what I do I'm still with TNA, we have a fantastic financial agreement. The relationship between me and TNA has always been great. I'm the type of person that really lives in the moment. I don't put too much into trying to build scenarios that are bad. As long as i get an opportunity to wrestle and wrestle great people then i have the greatest job in the world.

On Stone Cold saying WWE should sign Samoa Joe
That was one of the greatest compliments ever given to me in my career by far by one of the greatest athletes in this industry. Just hope that TNA sees that and we can take it from there. I'm big on loyalty. Some people are of the thought process that if you don't like something, you quit. You go somewhere else, you do something else. That's just not me. I think its silly, I think its shallow and taudry. I don't think I'm done with what I want to do in TNA.

On reading dirt sheets.
Not really but with twitter being the new social revolution that it is. just about every third or fourth post has something to do with the dirt sheets or about some outlandish rumor they have heard out there. Do i read the sheets? No. Alot of it is simply because 99% of it is not true. It's alot of speculation that isnt true. It's a business just like the wrestling business. If you don't have something compelling to write down there or for your newsletter or your website every week then you get no visitors. I can respect that. I don't even call them dirt sheets. They are newsletters with fans opinions on the wrestling business. I think that as long as the discussion of wrestling is in the hands of the fans and they are talking about it then something is right.

Questions quickly go from his performance in the Bound For Glory Series To MMA and Submission Wrestling
I work for a company that does TV wrestling. TV wrestling is very flash, bang, get it going. I've been told by many people in creative that those wrestling fans love the wrestling but its the other fans that don't understand what a wrist lock is etc. I have had my disagreements on this. I think that the art of professional wrestling speaks for itself. I think if you are a good enough professional wrestler you can tell your own story regardless of what extraneous feuds you have going. Fundamentally we may differ on that.

The popularity of MMA and bringing in submissions into professional wrestling.
Absolutely. With the more modern professional wrestling fan being far more educated. 99.9% of the wold knew what an armbar was in the 90's. I think that professional wrestling needs to evolve. There are some that may not feel that. I have argued my point. I make a stand here and there. At the end of the day the coach tells you how to play.

X-Division weight limits
when i heard that i think it shortchanged the division. I didn't like that. It does however provide a safe haven for guys like Austin Aries that will give them a spot on the show. Sometimes the X-Division wasn't being spotlighted because guys couldn't get their spot in and some of the matches weren't what fans would first think of as X-Divison matches. It does prevent some great potential matches from happening but it really only hurts guys outside of the X-division for now.

On his infamous shoot on Scott Hall During Turning Point 2007:
They limited me in that aspect. There was an incident where Scott Hall no-showed. They handed me the mic and said "Get him". That was what i was told. I went out there and got him. I ruffled a lot of feathers that day. In particular Kevin Nash. Kevin knew about the demons Scott was facing. None of us knew the extent of Halls issues.

The Scott Hall incident brings up Matt and Jeff Hardy.
I'm Ecstatic for Jeff. I've never seen him more healthy and look so much more alive. God Bless Matt. Matt is battling those same demons now. I hope and pray that he makes it through. At the end of the day wrestlers are human beings. These are real people, no matter how much you hate their antics. No matter how much they disgust you. As a person, as a responsible human being i would never wish death on these people. People that do are just far too immature to understand or are just heartless people. to listen to the whole interview go to the link below.
